Sapphire & Steel research projects

Sapphire & Steel conduct research in partnership with industry bodies, academic institutions and corporate partners bringing clarity to persistent market barriers and building the ecosystem momentum needed to solve them. Current research projects include:

The path to net zero for property development

We are working to understand the path to net zero for property development in the UK. We know that net zero is a top priority for property developers but the path is still far from clear. Many questions remain around the policy environment, the initiatives to back, and the nature of collaboration across the ecosystem. We are looking to understand the ambition and frustrations that property developers are facing as they map out this path.

The role of the startup chair

The role of the startup chair is a poorly understood and under-utilised. We were keen to demystify the role and clarify expectations of what makes a great chair. In doing so we hope to increase both take-up and pipeline diversity. Our ultimate ambition is to accelerate and enhance the impact of technology startups operating in our ecosystem. Under-represented founders, under-represented markets

Under-represented founders are over-mentored and under-funded. At the same time many angels and VCs are struggling to build a stronger pipeline of diverse founders in diverse markets.  We have established an action research project to explore this problem in greater detail and we are currently looking for a research partner.
